HDL is sometimes called ‘good cholesterol’ because it absorbs cholesterol and takes it back to the liver. The liver is then able to flush it out of your body. Since it helps absorb and remove cholesterol it lowers your risk for heart disease and stroke.

You can find out your HDL levels by getting a blood test. If you’ve already had a blood test recently and have your results you can check your HDL levels. Healthy HDL Levels for men over 20 is more than 40mg/dl. Healthy HDL levels for women over 20 is more than 50mg/dl.
