According to the US Department of Health, nutrients are compounds in foods essential to life and health, providing us with energy, the building blocks for repair and growth and substances necessary to regulate chemical processes.


Essential nutrients

Now essential nutrients are compounds that the body can’t make or can’t make in sufficient quantity. There are 6 of these. These are:

  1. Protein
  2. Carbohydrates
  3. Fats
  4. Vitamins
  5. Minerals
  6. Water
