What’s Gluten?

Check out the food breakdown. What you know about gluten? There may be some terms that you come across while you’re grocery shopping or ordering food. We’re gonna provide the breakdown so that you can get the most out of your diet.

Gluten is a family of storage proteins that are naturally found in certain cereal grains such as wheat, barley, and rye. When heated gluten can stretch and trap gas. This allows for certain foods to rise and maintain moisture like bread, pasta and other similar items. Gluten improves texture and promotes moisture retention.

It’s also important to remember that some people cannot eat gluten. For example celiac disease is the most severe form of gluten intolerance. If you are one of these people that’s okay because there are many gluten-free diets available!

Here are some more foods that have lots of gluten:
  1. Grains
  2. Processed grain-based products
  3. Soy sauce
  4. Flavored chips
  5. Beer and certain kinds of wine
